2017 Mar 28

shalom logo

We are continuing to ask that in addition to fasting and prayer during this Lenten season, that you please join us in voicing support for vulnerable immigrants and refugees. You can do so by calling the offices of your members of Congress during Justice for Immigrants Phone-In Fridays, a weekly advocacy event which we are undertaking this liturgical season.
Every Friday until April 14, please call your federal lawmakers and urge them to co-sponsor legislation that supports immigrants and refugees seeking protection and safety in the United States. If your representative has already supported the legislation protecting immigrants and refugees listed below, call in to thank them!

Remembering Sister Lillian Marie McLoughlin
2017 Feb 10

Remembering Sister Lillian Marie McLoughlin

We are celebrating the life of Sister Lillian Marie McLoughlin. She was taken from us 50 years ago on Feb. 20, 1967.

At 26 years old, Sister Lillian Marie was a dedicated second grade teacher at the parish school of St. Philip Neri Church in Rochester, NY. On Feb. 20 Sister Lillian was on yard duty and keeping track of the children as they played outside. One student informed her there was a fire inside the church and that children were inside. Without thinking or worrying about herself, Sister Lillian rushed into the church. There were no children but she did see the elderly pastor, Father George Weinmann holding the Blessed Sacrament.

AHA Community Unites to Assist Haiti
2016 Nov 3

SSND New York Reunion

AHA students fundraising for Haiti.

Early in October, Hurricane Matthew tore through Haiti leaving devastation in its wake – but not hopelessness. In an effort to continue the relief efforts in Haiti, the Academy of the Holy Angels has joined forces with the School Sisters of Notre Dame and Beyond Borders to assist as many Haitian families as possible.

“The School Sisters of Notre Dame respond to the needs of the times, and were already working in Haiti before the hurricane,” explained Director of Campus Ministry Kathleen Sylvester. Although the sisters sent funding to Haiti through Catholic Relief Services immediately following the storm, additional aid is still needed, Sylvester said.
