2006 Mission and Ministry To determine the recipient of the Mission and Ministry Award, SSND staff, faculty, and Associates nominate and elect a lay staff or faculty member who demonstrates the following qualities: reverence for each person, encouragement of others' potential, support of a wholesome and unifying work environment, fostering of a welcoming and inclusive community, and promoting of Gospel values. At the Notre Dame Day celebration this year, Sister Coralie Ullrich, speaking for all campus SSNDs, read the following tribute as she presented the award to Stephanie Percy, a member of the College housekeeping staff for the past 12 years: "With gratitude and admiration, we School Sisters of Notre Dame are pleased to present the 2006 SSND Mission and Ministry Award to a person who exemplifies the spiritual values and educational vision of the founders of the College: Stephanie Percy." The citation also praised Stephanie for "the caring way she greets and interacts with all members of the campus community," the cheerfulness and kindness with which she fosters "an environment that is warm and inclusive," her witness "to the Gospel values of graciousness and generosity," and her constant "behind-the-scenes" contributions to the College mission. It was appropriate that Coralie Ullrich, currently the most senior presence among the SSNDs on campus, be the one to present this award. An alumna of the Class of 1935, Coralie came to the College in 1956 – fifty years ago - as a member of the biology department and assistant to the Dean of Students; more recently, having retired from teaching, she has served as a staff assistant in several campus offices. It is also fitting that one of the annual student awards has been established in her name by grateful alumnae: the Sister Coralie Ullrich Award for Service to the Notre Dame Community. Both Stephanie Percy and Coralie Ullrich continue to manifest outstanding service to the Notre Dame Community.
