S. Clare Fitzgerald Keynote at Diocesan Educators’ Conference This is a portion of an article which ran in the December 7, 2007 edition of The Texas Catholic. The complete story may be found on their Web site, http://www.goccn.org/stc/. December 7, 2007 Over 400 educators, administrators, faculty and support staff of the 18 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Corpus Christi assembled at the 22nd Annual Diocesan Educators’ Conference on November 16th. Anchor of Faith, Harbor of Light was the theme for the event held at the Holiday Inn Airport Hotel and Conference Center in Corpus Christi to inspire and honor those working in Catholic schools. Those who addressed the participants during the day stressed the essential role Catholic educators play in the lives of students who need good role models. Young people will imitate all you say and do, said Bishop Edmond Carmody to the participants during his homily in the Mass that opened the conference. He challenged them to be an example of the Lord as he spoke of the awesome responsibilities of teachers. He added that, all of us working together can make a difference, if we are all united to following the Lord, Jesus. Following the liturgy, keynote speaker Sister Clare Fitzgerald, SSND, Ph.D., a native Bostonian and a member of the Atlantic-Midwest Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, gave a lively presentation and said, “Teachers need to get students aroused” as she sashayed back and forth across the stage and did an imitation of Brittany Spears. When Sister Clare is not addressing audiences at various conferences, she is educating her own students and tells them she is outraged they are not outraged by anything that’s going on in the world. Also, she applauds teachers for their commitment to Catholic schools when they could be earning triple the salary teaching in public schools.
