St. Thomas principal Jeffrey Quinn recently recognized Sisters Georganne Pearson and Catherine Goodell for their service to their congregation and the school. |
The last all-school mass at St. Thomas High School in Dover, New Hampshire, was held on May 1, 2008, and as part of it, two very important people in the STA family were honored. Sister Georganne Pearson, SSND was recognized by Principal Jeffrey Quinn as celebrating her 60th year as a School Sister of Notre Dame. Sister Georganne is well known to all of St. Thomas’ alums, as she has worked at the school since 1961, the second year it was open.
Also recognized was Sister Catherine Goodell, who this year marks her 30th year at St. Thomas, and who has announced that at the end of the year she will retire after 70 years of working as an educator. Sister Catherine, in addition to her years at St. Thomas, spent time teaching at schools in Philadelphia and Georgia. As those who know Sister Catherine surely agree, we are, like the countless students whose lives she has enriched with her presence, fortunate to have had her at our school all these years.
Both sisters were presented with the Lux in Tenebris Award at commencement exercises on June 8, 2008. This prestigious honor was established to give recognition to a person or persons of the St. Thomas High School community who has made significant, enduring contributions to humanity in keeping with the ideals and mission of St. Thomas, specifically with respect to service and sacrifice. These contributions are primarily seen as activities which promote the welfare of humankind, especially through the alleviation or elimination of pain and suffering and toward seeking a just world.
