Barbara Valuckas celebrates 50 years as facilitator

May 8, 2008

S. Barbara Valuckas, S.S.N.D., of Watertown, will celebrate her 50th anniversary of profession - her golden Jubilee - on Saturday, May 3, at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton. Ms. Valuckas serves as facilitator in settings around the world.

There are over 600 sisters in the Atlantic-Midwest Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, ministering in 34 Diocese in the United States and in countries around the world. Many of the sisters in the Atlantic-Midwest Province are educators, but many others work in countless other capacities to better their local communities and the world.

This year marks an important milestone for the worldwide School Sisters of Notre Dame congregation as well. Caroline Gerhardinger and two other women began a common religious life in Bavaria 175 years ago, educating poor girls because of their belief that the mother, the first educator, had a key role in the renewal of society.
