Renovated AHA Auditorium Reopens for Grandparents’ Day, Easter Liturgy

The doors to Holy Angels’ completely renovated, state-of-the-art auditorium opened wide on April 19 -- just in time for Grandparents’ Day and the Easter Liturgy. AHA President Melinda Hanlon and Principal Jean Miller beamed with joy as they cut the ribbons at both sets of doors to celebrate the reopening of the auditorium and music wing.

AHA's Awareness Day Focuses on Waging Peace

The Holy Angels community recently participated in Awareness Day, a time to build knowledge of themselves and the global community. Students at AHA Middle School examined peace on a personal level, while upper school students focused on “Waging Peace in a Divided World.”

Go, Bulldogs - AHA Senior Erin Ha Set to Play Tennis for Yale

Game, set, and match: Erin Ha. This Tenafly teen just signed her letter of intent to play tennis for the Yale Bulldogs. Her February 17 signing ceremony was held at the Academy of the Holy Angels, where Ha is midway through her senior year. Those in attendance included teammates, classmates, and Ha’s parents Karen and David.

Angels Consider STEM Careers with Alumna Engineer Nina Sinatra

Nina Sinatra, a 2008 graduate of the Academy of the Holy Angels, recently spoke with current students about her exciting career as a senior mechanical and materials engineer. During the Zoom session, Sinatra explained that an AHA engineering lab sparked her interest in STEM. She was captivated by the idea that she could blend creativity and technology to design an item that could withstand being dropped from a height.

AHA Footwear Drive Nets 466 Pairs of Shoes

While volunteering at the Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen, Texas, students from the Academy of the Holy Angels noticed the scarcity of shoes available to people in need. Soon after their 2022 experience, the volunteers advised the AHA community, which responded by donating 466 pairs of sneakers and other footwear during Catholic Schools Week (January 29 through February 4, 2023).

AHA Open House for Catholic Schools Week

Local families started Catholic Schools Week (January 29-February 4) at Holy Angels, filling every available seat at the AHA Middle School Open House. Prospective sixth graders and their families learned about the benefits of a Holy Angels education, and took personalized campus tours guided by current students.

Teen Volunteer Answers the Call to Help the Most Vulnerable

Caterina Cardamone is always there for those in need. This Academy of the Holy Angels senior supplies fresh produce (grown at AHA) to local food banks; serves as a Catholic Youth Organization Council Member; is a teen retreat leader, lector, and Eucharistic Minister; and also volunteers as a junior firefighter.

AHA Alumni Help Students Understand Armenian Genocide

The Armenian Genocide came into sharper focus this month, as Academy of the Holy Angels alumna Talin Baghdadlian (’09) and her husband Armen Sahakyan addressed Jennifer Cucchisi’s Advanced Placement History class. They are descendants of Armenian Genocide survivors, and now live and work in Armenia.

Emily Kim, an aspiring pediatric surgeon from Englewood Cliffs, is the Academy of the Holy Angels’ nominee for the Governor’s School of New Jersey Program in the Sciences! In 2022, Emily participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine held at Saint John’s University and the 2022 National Student Leadership Conference: Medicine and Health Care at American University. AHA Juniors Are NJ Scholars Program Candidates

Georgette “Gigi” Ochs and Natalie Yoo are the Academy of the Holy Angels' candidates for the 2023 New Jersey Scholars Program. NJSP is a highly-selective, five-week summer program for rising high school seniors. AHA’s nominees will now begin the rigorous statewide application process.

Twenty-two Angel Musicians Enter Tri-M Honor Society

Chapter 2150 of the Modern Music Masters National Honor Society has accepted 22 top-flight musicians from the Academy of the Holy Angels. The Tri-M induction, which was held December 2, recognized each new member’s musical accomplishments, scholarship, character, leadership, and service to others.

Angels Leave Teen Hunger Summit Inspired to Alleviate Food Insecurity

During the holiday season, when many people focus on abundant feasts, students from the Academy of the Holy Angels in Demarest attended The Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s Teen Hunger Summit. The virtual event (held December 6) inspired many attendees to take action to ameliorate food insecurity: the lack of reliable access to sufficient affordable and nutritious food.

Giving Thanks: AHA Teens Carry on S. Catherine’s Legacy of Kindness

Four exceptionally kind students from the Academy of the Holy Angels were recognized at the November 21 Thanksgiving Prayer Service. Camila Reynoso and Trinity Savage of Englewood Cliffs, Taylor Glynn of Hoboken, and Breanna Hetzer of Nutley received the Sister Catherine Green Kindness Award for going out of their way to lend a hand, listen, and bring joy to others.

AHA Donates 65 Turkeys to Community FoodBank of NJ

A week prior to the holiday, the Academy of the Holy Angels donated dozens of frozen turkeys to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside. Campus Minister Maryanne Miloscia organized this annual Turkey Drive.

Angels for Veterans Fundraiser Will Help Train Service Dogs

“Pups4Patriots™ is important to me because it focuses on an issue that isn't as addressed or recognized by the general public,” said Angels for Veterans leader Reilly Guy. “It is an organization that finds and trains dogs to become service dogs to aid veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injury."
