AHA Hosts Successful Golf Outing

Eighty-eight sportspersons and 165 dinner guests attended the inaugural Academy of the Holy Angels Golf & Tennis Outing on September 26. The autumn day was so spectacular that even a passing sprinkle brought a rainbow to those gathered at the Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell.

AHA Delegates at Harvard China Model UN

The Academy of the Holy Angels' Model United Nations team earned international acclaim at the 12th Annual Harvard Model UN China (August 17-21). This virtual, international event is sponsored by Harvard's International Relations Council and Alpha Partners Education, which is located in Beijing. Speeches and discussions are held in English.

AHA Middle School Hosts Commencement for First Graduates

The inaugural eighth grade class from the Academy of the Holy Angels Middle School celebrated their commencement in a sea of pale blue caps and gowns. The June 10, 2022, baccalaureate Mass and graduation were held at Saint Therese of Lisieux Church in Cresskill, NJ.

Awareness Day at AHA

“The best version of the world starts with the best version of me,” psychologist Dr. Linda Terry told the Academy of the Holy Angels on Awareness Day, an annual observance at AHA. Her keynote speech, “Me vs. My Anxiety,” was a highlight of this year’s exploration of multi-dimensional wellness.

AHA Students With Ukrainian Ties Call for Peace

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is affecting citizens in many nations, including two AHA students who recognize that peace cannot wait. Nicole Yakubov and Alexis Mysliwiec, founders of AHA’s Slavic-Baltic Cultural Society, stepped up during International Week, leading the school community in moving prayers for peace.

AHA Self-Care Fair Takes the Sting Out of Stress

Stress can pull the joy out life, so students from the Academy of the Holy Angels developed a Self-Care Fair. Held on the morning of February 16, this student-led event included multiple positive strategies for coping with stress.

CSW Liturgies Remind Angels: Bring Light to a Dark World

Father Paul Houlis from Our Lady Queen of Peace celebrated the Feb 1st liturgy for AHA Middle School. He commented on God calling Jeremiah, who believes he is too young for the task... “What matters most is what God thinks about us,” he said. “We’re made in God’s image…You are powerfully and wonderfully made.”

AHA to Honor Sharon Slear & Diane Oakley at Angelic Evening

May 12 will be an Angelic Evening, a sparkling night of accolades for two accomplished women who exemplify steadfast support for the Academy of the Holy Angels. Sister Sharon Slear, SSND, and Diane Oakley (AHA ’71) will be honored for their commitment, dedication, and service to the advancement of AHA.

AHA Community Looks Back, Moves Forward on Foundation Day

On October 22, the Holy Angels community joyfully recalled the 188th anniversary of the establishment of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The Foundation Day Prayer Service allowed the AHA community to look back to 1833, and resolve to move forward by living the SSND charism.

2022 Sister Catherine Green Kindness Award Recipients

Burdens seem lighter when friends listen with care and share their warmth and wit. For these reasons, and many more, Reilly Guy, Emma Spadora, and Milena Hiza received the Sister Catherine Green Kindness Award from the Academy of the Holy Angels this year.

AHA Celebrates 142nd Graduating Class

One hundred and four exceptional young women graduated from the Academy of the Holy Angels on June 3. The 142nd graduating class gathered at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, NJ for Mass and the commencement ceremony. The Class of 2022 earned acceptance to some of the nation’s finest institutions of higher learning, including Dartmouth, Princeton, and Yale.

Celebrating Saint Nicholas Day

Student Council leaders at the Academy of the Holy Angels, sent homemade videos and a digital Advent calendar to the children from Saint Peter the Apostle School in Philadelphia. Both schools were founded by the SSNDs, and traditionally celebrate Saint Nicholas Day together. While in-person visits are not possible, the high school students continue to make the holidays a special time for their younger counterparts.
