As we celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada on today, October 9th, let us give God praise and thanks for all that we have received and pray in gratitude for the abundant blessings bestowed upon us, our family, friends and congregation. We wish all of our sisters, associates and staff in Canada a very happy Thanksgiving Day! May this day be for you, a time of prayer, gratitude and great Joy!
For the UN Day for World Peace last month, the social committee of the two Kitchener, Ontario high-rise apartments where SSND Sisters Barbara Meinzinger and Barbara Paleczny organized a pot-luck meal.  

On September 30, people across North America marked Orange Shirt Day, a grassroots movement started in 2013 to remember indigenous children forced to leave their families in September and attend residential schools.

The overall theme of the celebration was entitled “Graced by Love,” excerpted from Sister Roxanne Schares’ 2023 letter to the Jubilarians. The 2023 Jubilarians, each holding a lit candle in their shared photos, graced the opening of the presentation. Sister Charmaine Krohe, Provincial Leader, greeted and addressed the Jubilarians with enthusiasm, thereby setting the tone for the day.
Several of NDLC’s students and their families enjoyed a scenic, narrated roundtrip cruise on the Genesee River this summer. The students saw various aquatic wildlife and learned how the river and canal made Rochester the Young Lion of the West!
NDMU's MBK Lobby was packed last week for the official rededication of NDMU’s Office of Service & Community Engagement. Now the Sister Sharon Slear Center for Service, Social Justice, and Community Engagement, it honors the decades of her service to Notre Dame, Baltimore, and areas in need across the world.
Reflection of the paschal mystery will be the theme as LCWR holds its annual assembly Tuesday through Friday (Aug. 8-11) in Dallas. Attendees will examine how, from the vastness of the universe to the space within ourselves, God creates life, even out of what appears to be destruction and death. Some events will be live streamed for those who cannot attend.

Christian spirituality is a way of living the Gospel through the power of the Spirit, but it is also a way of perceiving reality and, by the same token, of dealing with it. It is the action of the Spirit that impels us, in a specific way, to take charge of reality. The talk of sr. Nurya Martínez-Gayol, ACI, presented during the UISG event "Deepening the Plenary", which took place from May 3-5 2023.
On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (July 30), human trafficking organizations raise awareness of the impact of and root causes of human trafficking. We also call on governments, law enforcement, and society to strengthen prevention efforts and to support victim-survivors of human trafficking. We invite you to pray and work towards ending human trafficking and breaking the link between human trafficking and forced migration.

Earlier this month, marine biology students from NDP headed to Key Largo to five days of scientific study and aquatic exploration. During the trip, the students studied seagrass beds, mangroves, and coral reefs to take water-quality samples and research the area’s biodiversity.
The Dismantling Racism Committee will be sharing a "Call to Action" each week during the 94 days between June 21, National Day of Indigenous Peoples, and September 30, National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. The goal is to educate ourselves and the public on the content of the 94 Calls to Action.
Helenann taught junior high in the US for eight years. Then she found her true calling, starting many long and adventure-filled years as a missionary to South America when she and her classmate Paula Armstrong joined our Sisters in Santiago, Chile. They were part of a second group that brought the total of SSNDs in Chile to 13. Along with teaching, they also harbored citizens being hunted by the corrupt government until they, themselves, became targets and had to flee.
Sister Regis had a long and varied career as an educator. She was a classroom teacher in Maryland, Massachusetts and Camden, New Jersey before becoming a principal. She worked in the Religious Education Office in Camden, then Baltimore. She was also a consultant for Catechesis and Religious Education in Baltimore. Sister Regis then spent almost twenty years as the Director of Catechetical Ministry and later Vicar for Religious in Florida
On Monday, June 5, the Sisters of Villa Assumpta bid farewell to Sisters Hao, Nga and Len, Daughters of our Lady of the Holy Rosary. After a liturgy of Thanksgiving, which included the celebrant Father Raymond and Sisters La and Luot, as well as Brothers Minh and Loi, the Sisters and their guests enjoyed a Vietnamese dinner in the dining room.   
For World Environment Day we are shining a light on plastic pollution. Every action WE can take to reduce plastic pollution matters! It is time to focus personally and publicly to transition to a circular economy. It is time to #BeatPlasticPollution
