Jesus Christ, Inner Light

I'm very aware during the season of Advent that we, here in the northern hemisphere, are at that time of the year when daylight hours dwindle to their shortest.

During my early morning prayer time this Advent, I find myself drawn to sit, in silence, in my room, in total darkness.

I seek to be open, receptive, and to create, with the help of God, an interior space to be filled with even the slightest glimmer of the light that is Jesus Christ, within and among us.

I pray to “get out of the way” and allow the light to enter.

The words from Suzanne Toolan, RSM*, both inspire and express my heart’s desire for us this Advent:

Jesus Christ, inner light,
let not our own darkness conquer us.
Jesus Christ, inner light,
enable us to welcome your love.
Jesus Christ, in our search for you,
Bring us into the warmth of your light.
Jesus Christ, inner light,
enable us to welcome your love.
