Liturgically speaking, Ordinary Time is a period or season during the church year that falls between the celebrations of major feasts.
But what does it mean to me?
As we go through life, we celebrate our major accomplishments: making First Communion and Confirmation; graduating from High School and college; celebrating First Profession, Final Profession, Silver Jubilee, Golden Jubilee, and so on.
These are the highlights of our pilgrimage through this life, and showcase the obvious help and support of God, family, and friends. But such highlights don’t happen every day.
For me, Ordinary Time is just that: the daily routine of getting up, praying, teaching, going to meetings, returning home, and going to bed. No bells and whistles. No accolades. Just life.
But I have realized that in the midst of this, the Lord walks with me, quietly supporting me through all that happens.
When I’m weary, God lifts me up; when I’m sad, God brings me joy; when I’m lonely, God comforts me.
The Lord shares life with me at all times and in numerous ways, especially during Ordinary Time.
This is what Theresa, the Little Flower, meant by her "little way."
Come to think of it, ordinary time is not so ordinary, is it?
