The symbol of Advent Light is a strong reminder of God’s incarnational LOVE ~ that Christ lives in the neighbourhoods of vulnerable Earth and vulnerable humanity… as a vulnerable child.
The question is, “Are we able to receive the Light?”
Picture this scene with me:
After his birth, Mary, the new mother, holds her baby Jesus close to her breast, looking at him and loving him tenderly.
Mary then gives her baby to Joseph to do the same.
Then Joseh returns Jesus to his mother.
Then she looks at us, our province faith community. She extends her arms, offering the child to us.
She insists we take him.
We hold him, awkwardly, tentatively, not wanting to break his fragile body.
We look at his face and eyes. We see joy and delight.
We see love.
We see something completely incomprehensible ~ God is where God wants to be, in our arms!
God could have been anywhere, but the one place in all creation that God wants to be is to be held by us.
God has made God’s perfect choice.
This Christmas, are we ready to be ‘chosen’?
Are we ready to be chosen even if we are not ready?
It would be God’s perfect choice! And that would be welcoming the Light.
