Rebecca C. - NDMU Class of 2028

My major concern about the climate is the increased issue with carbon emissions. It is clear how prevalent this issue is today and to our future, but what is particularly concerning to me is that there isn’t much that I or individual people can do as it exists as an issue on a more corporate level. I try to do what I can to address issues of climate change. More heavily I hold importance to the issue of the fast fashion industry and the implications it has on our environment. Most of my clothes are thrifted or second hand, and I try to do what I can to reuse clothing or fabric that I don’t want anymore. Anything I don’t reuse; I donate or sell to second-hand thrift stores.

The more I learned in school throughout the past years about the issues of climate change, it made me more increasingly concerned. Learning in particular about famous climate activists and how they attempt to reach people in governmental organizations on a global scale has also helped me to gain a larger perspective of how widespread this issue is.

My faith has led me to the understanding and belief that God calls us to safeguard the environment he created for us. I believe it is each person’s individual responsibility to do what they can to help the environment. I believe that even small steps can make a difference, and that spreading awareness is the first and most important step in making a difference.
