2019 New Year Blessings

Loving God, journey with me this year
so that I may feel your presence, abide in your forgiveness,
grow in your strength, and dwell in your love. (Openings)

Dear Sisters, Associates and Colleagues,

On January 1, as so many in the world ring in the new year, the Church invites us to celebrate the Solemnity of the Mother of God. On this special day, we, as School Sisters of Notre Dame, Associates and Colleagues entrust our hearts to Mary and see her as a messenger of hope who strengthens us in our faith, our vocation and our mission. By her spirit, her example and her love, she brings peace into the world. As we prepare to celebrate this great feast of Mary, let us place before God the hopes and sorrows of the many people in our world who are struggling to find the presence of God in their lives.

In this new year, we are also called to a World Day of Prayer for Peace. Let us join with others and continue to educate, advocate and act on behalf of climate change, the war against violence and abuse, unemployment and hunger, immigration and  racism, mass shootings and the threats of terrorism. With so many global issues that require immediate attention, it is easy to lose hope and get discouraged. By standing up against the injustices of our world, we are able to build bridges of inclusivity that bring hope and compassion to those in need.  At the beginning of this New Year of grace, may God send us out to be instruments and agents of life and peace.

In this New Year, let us be grateful for what we have received, repentant for our failings, and resolve to work with God’s grace to better our lives, our communities and ourselves. On behalf of the provincial council, I wish you a very Happy New Year.

In Notre Dame,
Charmaine
