5,000 Miles of Joy

I could hardly believe the red light that flashed "Maintenance Required" on my dashboard. There was no way I had put 5,000 miles on the car since my last oil change in June. It was only September! How could this be?

Yet it was. My trips had added up. They included twice-weekly visits to Maple Glen to see Sisters Mary Juarez and Susan Curtain; three visits per month to see Sisters at Resurrection Life Center; weekly check-ins at Corazon a Corazon; and other errands.

Mileage cannot compete with joy, I told myself. It's a joy I both bring and receive at Resurrection Life, as we reread the Chicago history of SSND, or read old obituaries to remember Sisters gone before.

It's a joy to share treats from 'The Cart.'

It's a joy to see the faces of Mary and Susan as they greet another SSND bringing them the Eucharist.

Who knew that 5,000 miles could bring such love and joy to my heart?

Who knew that "retirement" could be such joy and fun!
