The SSNDs were my teachers through 12 years at Notre Dame Grade School and McDonell Memorial High School in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
I especially remember Sister Patricia, who taught 6th grade. If we had done our homework well she would read to us on Thursday afternoon.
Sister Pierre Hebert was a cousin of mine, and I often got to visit her in Manaska, Utah, when her brother and sister and parents went to visit. I was a preschooler, so I got lots of hugs from the Sisters.
My parents both had great respect for education and told us our legacy from them would be a good Catholic education. My sister and I both graduated from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota and became teachers, though not always in a school situation.
I am now 90 years of age and find that my volunteering activities are “after teaching” opportunities. Teaching must get in one’s blood!
Congratulations on 185 years of service to us,
Dorothy Hebert
