My largest concern about our climate is the emissions that are produced by cars and other unclean forms of transportation. The gases emitted by gas-powered cars are incredibly harmful to our environment and can cause immense damage to our ozone layer. There are many different methods to counteract these emissions continuously being pumped into our air, such as electric vehicles, carpooling, public transportation, and biking.
In my hometown, I thought it best to focus on biking as an alternative form of transportation as it was largely unused in the community. I started an advocacy movement with one of my buddies, called Greenchangeforchappaqua. We focused on advocating for the benefits of biking in order to gain the attention of school administration and town board officials. While we weren’t successful in our plan to create bike paths, we proposed our plan to the town board and plan on editing and re-presenting our idea.
My father was the one who fostered my interest in climate issues as he was the one who fostered my love for nature. He had exposed me to the many beauties of nature from a young age, where he would take me on hikes to see the hidden gems of the wild. These explorations caused me to fall in love with nature and all it has to offer. This is what causes me to care so deeply about climate issues as these issues have a direct impact on our beautiful natural landscape.
My faith causes me to show love and compassion to those around me and to respect God’s creations. Nature, being one of his best creations is something that I fight to preserve. His teachings and my faith is what drives me to protect all that he has given us.
