We celebrate with overwhelming joy that God sent us Cardinal Robert F. Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, to be the 267th pope.
Robert Prevost was born and raised in the South Side of Chicago, is a graduate of Villanova University and priest in the Order of St. Augustine. We, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, already feel a deep connection with our new Pope Leo XIV. Ours is a congregation of women religious with Augustinian roots and, our Atlantic-Midwest Province embraces both Chicago and Philadelphia. We are grateful the Spirit has sent us a leader who seeks Oneness with a missionary’s heart. As a leader for all, we pray that the Holy Father will continue to build a community “of one heart and one soul in God,” (YAS, p.18).
Let us turn our sadness to joy, hope, and praise that God has sent his people a leader in Pope Leo XIV to respond to the urgent needs of our time. As we continue our pilgrimage in this jubilee year of hope, may we “commit to actions that deepen our relationships of communion, wherever we are (The Call and Acts of the 25th General Chapter, 2023).
