On June 12, 2021, the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) Central Pacific Province (CP) celebrates its 10th anniversary. This celebration marks 10 years since the Dallas, Mankato, Milwaukee and St. Louis Provinces came together to become one, a decision based on the aging population of sisters and the hope for a brighter future through shared resources.
The joining of the provinces required much planning, compromise and sometimes sacrifice. These well-established provinces had to decide what becoming “one” looked like. Therefore, they had to essentially start from scratch. Each province had their own staff, leaders, properties and ways of operating. There was a lot of excitement around becoming one province, but a lot of mourning the past too. The process was done by including the sisters in all of the decision-making, holding multiple meetings, dialogues and spending time in discernment.
