Promoting Justice for Immigrants: Immigration and Canada

Immigration is important to Canada’s future. In 2022, Canada welcomed 437,180 immigrants and the number of non-permanent residents increased by a net 607,782 people. Both figures are the highest levels on record. The Government of Canada has launched a public survey to get feedback and ideas on the future of immigration in Canada. Canadians can click here to go to the Government of Canada website to take the survey. Survey ends soon.

Ending Human Trafficking: Pope Francis’ Message of Hope

“Journeying in Dignity” was the theme for this year’s International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking (February 8). It was chosen by an international group of young people involved in the fight against trafficking. In a video message released for the day, Pope Francis encouraged young people to “care for dignity, yours and that of every person you meet."

The theme, he said  “indicates a broad horizon for your commitment against human trafficking: human dignity. In this way you can contribute to keeping hope alive, and I would also add joy, which I invite you to preserve in your hearts, along with the Word of God, because Christ is the true joy!”

We live in a difficult time, Pope Francis acknowledged, "but it is precisely in this reality that all of us, in particular young people, are called to join forces to build ‘networks of good’, to spread the light that comes from Christ and his Gospel."
