End Human Trafficking: World Day Re: Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence
In 2022, the United Nations declared November 18th as “World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence”. This declaration raises awareness about the experiences of countless young children, especially girls, who are at greater risk of being subjected to forced sex and violence in-person and online. The United Nations provides a framework to address these human rights violations, global health problems, and encourage appropriate actions by stakeholders. Learn more here.
Native American Heritage Month in the U.S.
This was established in 1990 for the month of November to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Native Americans. Native women, especially, deserve honor for their influence on preserving this heritage. Susan Shown Harjo (Hodulgee Muscogee/Southern Cheyenne)—poet, journalist, and activist—received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for fighting for Native American sovereignty, including protecting sacred sites, obtaining religious freedom, and achieving language revitalization.
