News from Matènwa
Matènwa Community Learning Center (MCLC) on La Gonav, Haiti, a partner of Beyond Borders, hosted over 300 children and adults in two summer camp sessions. Participants learned arts and crafts, music, hair braiding, weaving, chairmaking, studio music recording, and new games the Matènwa Way!
The school, made up of students in pre-K through high school, started classes last week even though the Haitian Ministry of Education is not opening schools until October due to the unrest in the country. Matènwa will conduct a month of education focusing on peace, creole gardens, and respect for the Haitian Creole language.
All 9th graders that took the National Ninth Grade Exam this summer passed! (16 out of 16). Matènwa’s first graduating class of students attended the University of Fondwa on the mainland last year and all ten of the students had internships in their fields of study this summer. Congratulations students and teachers!

Season of Creation – An Expression of SSND’s Call
During the Season of Creation, SSND is publicly highlighting the various and creative ways the congregation is living out our Laudato Si commitment through the sharing of photos on the SSND International website, www.gerhardinger.org. Each week there will be a focus on a different branch of Shalom. This week we highlight the branch of Asia/Oceana. Click here to discover Asia/Oceana’s Laudato Si’ update.
