“Do your little bit of good where you are.
It’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
The International Day of Peace, September 21, 2020 is observed by all in our SSND Shalom Networks around the world. This year, a video/prayer for this day has been created under the leadership of our JPIC and Communications Departments. With the collaboration of the Shalom International Coordinator, it has been translated into the languages of SSND so that all of us can pray “as one” for peace in our day.
Given that the International Day of Peace falls within the Season of Creation ( Sept 1-October 4th), and within the 5th Anniversary Year of Laudato Si, the theme for the 2020 Day of Peace is: “ Jubilee for Earth: Together Making Peace with our Planet.”
Below you will find a link to the video/prayer to use on or around September 21st. During the prayer there are moments indicated to pause the video, reflect, and respond to the questions presented. A handout with these questions is also provided, and you are invited to send your responses via email to Arlene Flaherty OP at email@example.com. If you choose to do so, Arlene will post these in order that we might see the work of the Spirit among us. When sharing your responses, if you would like to remain anonymous, please indicate that in your email to Arlene.
The local leaders in the SSND residences have already received information and resources regarding the Day of Peace observance. They will be in contact with the Sisters regarding the plan for the day. Local SSND communities and individuals can pray with the video using your electronic devices.
Pope Francis has said, “Each one of us is called to be an artisan of peace, by uniting and not dividing, by extinguishing hatred and not holding on to it, by opening paths to dialogue and not by constructing walls.” In his urgent call in Laudato Si to embrace an integral ecology, Francis reminds us that there can be no flourishing for humanity if there is no flourishing for the planet. Let us take this opportunity to pray for peace in solidarity with the SSND network around the world. Let us pray for “peace “for our planet, “peace,” for our societies, and “peace, “for our brothers and sisters everywhere.
