Laudato Si’ - The Trinity and the Relationship Between Creatures

239, 240. For Christians, believing in one God who is trinitarian communion suggests that the Trinity has left its mark on all creation… The human person grows more, matures more and is sanctified more to the extent that he or she enters into relationships, going out from themselves to live in communion with God, with others and with all creatures. In this way, they make their own that trinitarian dynamism which God imprinted in them when they were created.

Reflection

A trinitarian spirituality must involve cultivating deep relationships, both with other humans and with all of creation.  It requires belief in the interconnectedness of all creation, awareness that God’s love is constantly at work, giving life to all that is. This conviction must lead to a stance of reverence and awe before every person and every part of creation from the vastness of the cosmos to the tiniest of insects.  This was the mindset of Jesus as he gazed on each vulnerable person who approached him in need of healing as well as on the tiniest wildflowers or a mustard seed or a sparrow. In a recent book Elizabeth Johnson asks:  What would it be like if we emulated the gaze of Jesus? How can I grow in awareness of my connection with those around the world living in the midst of war or violence?  How can I see a loving God present in the beauty of nature that surrounds me?
