The greatest story ever told began with the greatest promise ever made.
Advent is the season of promise, where hope takes center stage in our prayer.
Advent is the season of promise fulfilled, where our expectation never disappoints because the Christ is come.
Advent's promise fulfilled leads to our renewal. We renew what we believe. We renew how we want to live. We even renew our love for God!
This year, we must renew our hope as well.
Our tumultuous election process and continuing desecration of the earth call us to cling even more tenaciously to hope.
This Advent, let us renew others' hope as we renew our own.
How?
We can be yeast, sparking hope in us all.
We can laugh and smile and help others in small ways. Our speech can bring joy and kindness to a world beset with fear. Our common daily actions - opening a door, holding an elevator - can nurture gratitude. All feed hope.
God brought Jesus to the world. We need to bring the world to Jesus during these dangerous times. May others see and be consoled by the Prince of Peace who lives in our hearts.
