Sister Eugene Geiger received some very special guests this month. Her great grandnieces, Caroline and Paige – wiggly and pink six-month-old twins - came to Villa Assumpta to meet their great-great-aunt for the first time. Barbara Geiger Green (left) and Joan Menutti (right) Sister Eugene’s nieces, came carrying the bundles of joy on a fine and sunny day in May. Barbara said of her aunt, “Sister Eugene Geiger has been a true inspiration for my entire family. She has led a life dedicated to helping others in so many ways. I am so proud of her dedication to SSND and am truly fortunate to be her niece and to have known her for so many years.”
Sister Eugene Marie Geiger was born on December 4, 1919, in Newark, New Jersey, the second daughter to Elizabeth nee Ollemar and Frank Geiger. She and her sister, Virginia, entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame; Virginia in 1933 and Eugene in 1939. Sister Eugene professed first vows on July 30, 1943, in Baltimore.
