As Sister Shirley Stockus celebrates her 60th Jubilee this year, Chicago Sisters have been celebrating with her.
She chose to celebrate in a unique way. Instead of one large celebration, Sister Shirley opted for smaller gatherings. We enjoyed one at Resurrection Life Center (RLC) and one at Marian Village.
The Sisters at RLC joined Shirley for cake and ice cream on May 4. Hosted by the Sisters who volunteer there, it was a wonderful sharing of stories and blessings.
Sister Lorrita Verhey led us in a prayer service and blessing for Shirley. Knowing her love of gardening, Shirley received several plants and many good wishes.
The Sisters at Marian Village gathered with Shirley on June 1.
Sister Marlene Panko prepared a prayer service. She began by reminding us of Shirley’s dedication to education.
Sister Shirley is well known for her creative classroom, especially for her "Cooking Corner," where students prepare (and eat) non-cook recipes. Lucky third graders!
Sister Marlene also thanked Shirley for her support and care of Sister Carol Brunner, who now resides at RLC. Sisters Shirley and Carol were longtime community members and friends.
Sister Marlene also recalled all the times Shirley has shared her musical talents with us at liturgies and province celebrations.
After prayer and renewal of vows, we all enjoyed refreshments: pizza, cookies, soda, and lively conversations and laughter.
Blessings and prayers from all of us to you on your Jubilee year, Shirley!
