”Santa Claus is working in our apartment to put out our presents!”
It was Christmas Eve, and I could hear commotion overhead. My two older brothers and I had been sent to our aunt's apartment downstairs, where we were to wait until called back up. I was about 5 years old, and very excited.
I never met Santa in our apartment, but had met Santa at Wieboldt's Department Store on the north side. I had a picture to prove it!
Our presents were simple but wonderful. We usually received one item of clothing and one toy.
After opening our gifts, we would sit down for a delicious German supper which included Sauerbraten and Pork Roast.
