Greetings from Pittsburgh!
I was taught by the SSNDs at St. Aloysius School in Reserve Township, a suburb of Pittsburgh.
School Sisters of Notre Dame staffed six schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh during the fifties including Most Holy Name - Troy Hill, St. Philomena - Squirrel Hill, St. Mary of the Assumption - 57th Street, St. Aloysius - Reserve Township, St. Ursula - Allison Park (left in the late fifties or early sixties) and St. Joseph – Verona.
.
Not a day goes by that I don't thank God that I was taught by the sisters.
We attended school in the lower level of the church and when I started first grade there were three Sisters teaching. The first and second graders had Sister Henrida Kehl, the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders were taught by Sister Mary Wilbert Hettel and the 6th, 7th and 8th graders were taught by Sister M. Olympia Anderer who served as principal, superior and organist.

I remember being in third grade, with 68 students joining me from grades four and five! Sister Mary Wilbert, later Sister Agnes Barbara, had complete control and was an excellent teacher. When I got to fifth grade, a fourth Sister joined the staff and we had two grades in each room. Sister Mary Ursula Golobic taught me in grades five and six. Sister also served as sacristan and taught us to be altar servers.
Graduating from St. Aloysius in 1957 as a class of 28 brought us many fond memories as we headed off to different high schools.
In 2017, we gathered for our 60th reunion and remembered our SSND teachers with much gratitude as we asked the Lord to grant them eternal happiness in Heaven.
