A Chicago Treasure

By Sister Miriam Patrick Cummings, SSND

Marge Carroll

Recently, Chicago-area Sisters celebrated the decades of love and care shown by alumna Marge Carroll toward our congregation.

Margaret Carroll, Academy of Our Lady (AOL) graduate of 1954, served as Moderator/President of the AOL Alumnae Association from 1970 to 2025, when all records were sent to the SSND Archives in Milwaukee.

Over those many years Marge kept the spirit of SSND alive in the hearts of thousands of young women who were “gently ruled by Notre Dame” according to the AOL Pep Song.

Through annual “Longwood Updates” and yearly class reunions, with prompts to "remember your dues," Marge made sure there were generous yearly donations to SSND, as well as our sponsored ministries, SisterHouse and Corazón a Corazón.

In a letter to Marge, Sister Charmaine thanked Marge saying, “Your tireless efforts have enabled thousands of alumnae to remain connected to the SSND family and have inspired them to transform their lives through the power of education. Please know that your legacy of service will not soon be forgotten.”

This letter was framed and given to Marge at a small gathering of Sisters and former Alumnae Board Members on November 15 at Mercy Circle, where Marge resides.

In typical Marge fashion, she attributed her service as an example of the service she learned from the School Sisters of Notre Dame throughout her 12 years of education at the Academy of Our Lady!
