Statement from the Provincial Council of the Atlantic-Midwest Province
As we celebrate this day commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s impact and efforts to create a more just society, the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s Atlantic-Midwest Province recommit ourselves “to be credible witnesses of universal communion through deepening our efforts to live as an intercultural faith community of one mind and one heart.” (The Call and Acts of the 25th General Chapter).
Dr. King’s commitment to dismantle racism and foster change through nonviolence provides a model for human discourse and a path to heal divisions that are still present in society today.
Today, the United States is witnessing an inauguration of a president and new administration during a season of intense divide and conflict. Through the guidance of Dr. King and our Foundress Blessed Mary Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger, we invite everyone to join us in recommitting ourselves to “heal divisions and fractured relationships through forgiveness, reconciliation, dialogue, compassion, peacemaking, and bridge-building within our congregation and beyond.” (The Call and Acts of the 25th General Chapter).
