Freeing Butterflies at the Royal Botanical Gardens

A group from SSND Waterdown enjoyed a trip to the Royal Botanical Gardens on May 20 in Hamilton, Ontario.

We visited the beautiful Lilac Dell. It was a real treat for all the senses with the amazing smell and variety of colours of lilacs everywhere.

While we were there, we released the Painted Lady Butterflies that we had raised from larvae.

We released them with mixed emotions, hating to see them go, but happy to let them fly free among the beautiful trees. We felt like proud parents!

Sisters on the trip included Janet Disbrowe, Rosalie Reitzel, Beatrice Zinger, Mary Jeanne Davidson and Marty Kimpel. The other LEAD coordinator was Kim Beckett.

I am hoping you, the reader, will get joy from the photos. I wish I could have recorded the scent to share with you, too!
