Combating Human Trafficking occupied several hours of time for SSNDs and other residents at 3030 Park in Bridgeport, CT, recently.
We began with a Zoom presentation by a victim of trafficking. Theresa Flores shared her experience of having lived with her family in an affluent neighborhood while being trafficked in private homes and hotels, many nights after midnight.
Theresa, now an antitrafficking activist and founder of the SOAP Project, had sent us several hundred small bars of soap and small bright red labels containing the National Human Trafficking Hotline Number to call for help.
We attached the labels to the soap and packed up many boxes for delivery to hotels located near large sporting events, such as the Super Bowl and World Series.
The labeled soap will be placed in hotel rooms and restrooms (the most obvious places for the victims to be without their predators).
We who worked with the soap labels believe we made a significant contribution to help reduce, and possibly eliminate, the trafficking of girls and women (and males) in our country.
