By Sister Rosemary Howarth, SSND
Last week we Sisters at SSND-Waterdown attended an appreciation event presented by the students of Laureate College. They displayed some of their gifts and talents in music, singing, and dance following coffee and cake together.
The students and staff also put into print their thoughts about our lives here together on 1921 Snake Road. Here are excerpts from their notes of appreciation:
* I'm one of the teachers here at Laureate College. On behalf of the entire staff at Laureate, I’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to the School Sisters of Notre Dame for graciously welcoming us into your space. Every day, we’re reminded that this is more than just a building — it is a place grounded in compassion, learning, and quiet service.
Your legacy of dedication to education, social justice, and spiritual growth surrounds us and inspires the work we do with our students. We are grateful not just for the physical space we share, but for the atmosphere of care and purpose that you’ve cultivated here over the years.
Thank you for your generosity, your presence, and your example. We are truly honoured to be your neighbours.

* As a student at Laureate College, I want to say a sincere thank-you to the School Sisters of Notre Dame — not only for sharing your beautiful home with us, but for sharing your spirit of kindness and community.
Every time we walk these halls, we are walking in a place shaped by your values — a place where service, humility, and faith are lived out every day. Even if we don’t always see it, we feel it — and it helps make our school feel like a second home.
From all of us in the student body, thank you for letting us be part of something bigger than ourselves. We appreciate it more than we can say.

It was a lovely and affirming experience for the Sisters who were in attendance that afternoon!
