Sister Justine Nutz, SSND, crafts evocative artwork
Creating the community bulletin board at The Watermark is a prayerful, artistic process for Sister Justine Nutz, SSND.
Using scraps of paper, fabric, yarn, pictures, words, and other items, her evocative designs invite reflection.
Her 2024 Lent board also recalls the Paschal Mystery.
"I used my Profession Rosary which goes from the feet of Jesus to the cross," Sister Justine explains.
Susan Beck's painting of Jesus (from a booklet of Henri Nouwen’s meditations on the Stations of the Cross) forms the heart of the collage, with crocuses to herald springtime, and a cloth to recall both the Garden of Olives and the Garden of Resurrection.
"Jesus walks through both gardens with his back to us, leading us into the words of Theresa of Avila. The board is not just Lent but the ongoing Paschal Mystery."
