The Class of 2024 joins a 150-year legacy of alumnae who have taken part in this special day. White gowns have been part of NDP’s commencement since the school’s opening when the 1877 student handbook directed students to have “a white muslin dress, white sash and gloves for commencement…” Exactly when roses were added is uncertain, but the change from short to long dresses can be dated to 1942. Today, the senior class collectively chooses the class graduation dress. In wearing identical dresses, the graduates celebrate the sisterhood forged during their time at NDP.
