Notre Dame Preparatory School is one of Baltimore's oldest Catholic, college preparatory school for young women. The school was founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1873.

Introducing New Head of NDP

As the 2025/26 school year gets underway, Notre Dame Preparatory School welcomes its first lay Head of School, Dr. Angela Allen. Dr. Allen is NDP’s tenth Head of School since the institution’s founding in 1873, succeeding Sister Patricia McCarron, SSND, PhD, who served as head of school for the past 20 years.

Sister Sharon Honored by NDP

Sister Sharon Slear, SSND, '61, has been named co-recipient of Notre Dame Preparatory School's 2025 Mother Caroline Friess Alumnae of the Year Award. She shares the honor with her fellow classmate, Peggy Mullan Greenman ’61.

NDP Celebrates Catholic Schools Week

On Wednesday, January 29, the Notre Dame Preparatory School Community held a very special Catholic Schools Week liturgy, at which Archbishop William E. Lori presided. As part of the celebration, a special tribute was given to Sister Patricia McCarron, SSND, Ph.D., for her 20 years of service to NDP as Head of School. Joining in the celebration were members of the McCarron Family as well as several School Sisters of Notre Dame.

SSNDs Attend School Convocation

Teachers and staff members from the archdiocese’s elementary and secondary schools gathered before the start of the school year, which this year began Aug. 26. Whether they wore matching T-shirts or traveled together via coach buses, school buses or by car, most arrived with smiles and a sense of excitement.

NDP Graduation Celebration - Since 1877!

The Class of 2024 joins a 150-year legacy of alumnae who have taken part in this special day. White gowns have been part of NDP’s commencement since the school’s opening when the 1877 student handbook directed students to have “a white muslin dress, white sash and gloves for commencement…”

At NDP - Service Faith and Habitat for Humanity

Over the weekend, NDP juniors and seniors participated in two builds for Habitat for Humanity, one in Havre de Grace, Maryland, the other in Aberdeen, Maryland. As they were pouring concrete and varnishing a deck, the girls helped transform houses that will soon become homes.

NDP Marine Biology Students in Key Largo

Earlier this month, marine biology students from NDP headed to Key Largo to five days of scientific study and aquatic exploration. During the trip, the students studied seagrass beds, mangroves, and coral reefs to take water-quality samples and research the area’s biodiversity.

NDP Musicians Sweep National Music Competition

This year the Festival of Music in Nashville, Tennessee, more than 800 musicians from six schools in Maryland, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada, competed. The 107 NDP student musicians won the Esprit de Corps Award for demonstrating the best offstage behavior, and exhibiting kindness, poise, and appreciation of the other groups.
