The School Sisters of Notre Dame are members and co-sponsors of U.S. Catholic Sisters Against Human Trafficking (USCSAHT). Members of USCSAHT are on Capitol Hill today - Tuesday, October 22, 2019 - to conduct visits with legislators concerning two important human trafficking prevention related bills.
The Central American Women and Children Protection Act (S. 1781) helps to support women and children in the northern triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, so they are not forced to flee and therefore be at greater risk for being taken advantage of by traffickers. The Child Trafficking Victims Protection and Welfare Act of 2019 (S. 661, H.R. 3729) would expand protections for vulnerable migrant children while in the custody of Customs and Border Patrol, prevent family separation, and assist with family reunification. Migrant children who are separated from their families and who have been traumatized are particularly vulnerable to traffickers.
The School Sisters of Notre Dame affirm the inherent dignity of every person and the right of people to seek security and safety for themselves and family members.
Please take time today to join us in urging Congress and the administration to take action to protect human dignity and help prevent human trafficking by supporting these important bills.
