On Saturday, March 23, Sister Jeanne McGue’s family held a day of celebration in anticipation of her 100th birthday (which would actually be on March 25). The day began with a liturgy concelebrated by Father David Medow, Pastoral Minister of Marian Village, and Father Tom Conde.
Our SSND musicians - Sisters Jean Phelan, Carol Brunner and Shirley Stockus - led the congregation in music chosen by Sister Jeanne. Sister Jeanne herself proclaimed the reading from Philippians.
Father David gave the homily. Reflections were shared by Sister Barbara Bowers and Father Conde, a long-time family friend.
Family members of various generations had roles in the liturgy, which was attended by many family members, friends, SSNDs and residents of Marian Village.
A festive meal followed, beginning with a special cake with the raised numbers “100” in candles on top. (Sister received help in blowing out the candles!)
The care of all her family was evident in the decorations, the delicious and generous meal and the sharing together.
The gift table included copies of Sister Jeanne’s autobiography, which the family had printed and bound.
The gift table also had a floral bouquet sent by the province.
