“Now that I, the Lord and Teacher have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet”
The LEAD staff at Notre Dame Waterdown, took this to it fullest meaning on Holy Thursday by providing a “Spa Day” for the Sisters.
During Spa, which included foot soak and massage, paraffin wax soak and nail care, time was taken to reflect on how we as a community can theoretically wash the feet of those in need around us. The Spa was a true symbolic activity featuring not only physical care but companionship, coffee and community.
All senses were touched including aromatherapy with the soothing scent of lotion and the paraffin wax. The sisters skin, joints and mental well being were all improved by this activity.
Many sisters remarked on the parallel of this activity and the Holy Thursday tradition of the washing of the feet. Father then in his homily that evening invited us to reflect and meditate on ways we can wash our neighbours’ feet and in particular what kind of services and help we can offer to our community, especially those who are weak, fragile and ill. Nice to know we are all on the same page!
It was an afternoon like no other.
