Sister Cabrini Celebrates 104!

Chicago's Resurrection Life Center hosted an extra-special birthday party Sunday, Jan. 19, for Sister Cabrini Ganz. Now 104, she is one of the oldest Sisters in our Province! The place was full of Sisters, friends, and family, many of whom shared stories from Sister Cabrini's life.

Feast of Josephine Bakhita Febuary 8th 2025

The Dismantling Racism and End Human Trafficking committees developed a prayer service for the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita on February 8. Use it individually or communally to pray for an end to racism and human trafficking and for victims of these situations. Thank you for your awareness and prayer for this courageous Saint and for the human dignity of all people.

Commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2025

As we celebrate this day commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s impact and efforts to create a more just society, the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s Atlantic-Midwest Province recommit ourselves “to be credible witnesses of universal communion through deepening our efforts to live as an intercultural faith community of one mind and one heart.” (The Call and Acts of the 25th General Chapter).

The Lancet, a renowned British medical journal, recognized the work of Beyond Borders in their November issue, noting that the approach our Rethinking Power team uses to prevent violence against women and girls is effective -- despite the presence of armed groups.

The Institute of Notre Dame, fondly known as “IND” was founded in 1847 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, an international congregation. The oldest all-girls Catholic high school, located in the heart of Baltimore City, closed its doors after 173 years on June 30, 2020, due to COVID-19, declining enrollment, the economy and an aging school building in need of much renovation and repair.

Congratulations to Sister Patricia McCarron on receiving The Daily Record’s Icon Honors! The Icon Honors Award recognizes those professionals over 60 for their notable success and demonstration of strong leadership within and outside their fields.

Sister Ellen (Honora) Ryan, SSND - 1933 - 2024

Sister Ellen spent 29 years as a teacher, and then moved into healthcare. She became a Home Health Aide and then a Licensed Practical Nurse. She especially loved providing home care, geriatrics, and therapeutic recreation. Sister Peg Regan said at her Wake, “She went beyond what was required and helped heal spirits as well as bodies. Ellen treated everyone with kindness and a listening ear and would bring meals to needy patients.” May Sister Ellen rest in peace.

The Shalom International Network and the Congregational Communications and Technology Team hosted a prayer service from Mother Theresa’s tomb on Sunday, November 17, at 7:30 pm (Rome time) for about 30 minutes commemorating the World Day of the Poor and Blessed Theresa’s Beatification Day.
