From November 9-11, the Department of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) and faculty members from our sponsored ministries Academy of the Holy Angels (AHA), Institute of Notre Dame (IND) and Notre Dame Prep (NDP) held a forum at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton for a selected group of 18 students, six from each school. The forum topic was gun violence.
“Addressing Gun Violence in Our Schools and Communities” had a robust agenda that included reflections, prayers, and several speakers. The highlights included a speaker from Sandy Hook Promise addressing “Gun Violence in America Today,” and Kelsey Reeder leading the group in a discussion on “Handling Difficult Conversations.”
The planned outcomes from this weekend included having the opportunity to reflect on the Gospel and the practice of non-violence, to gain personal and national-level knowledge on issues around gun violence, to build skill development towards advocacy and conducting difficult conversations, and to create action plans for their respective schools.
