Sr. Pamela Jablon
As I reflect on my 50 years as a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, I feel abundantly blessed in my ministries: as an educator, administrator, and spiritual director/retreat director.
Sister Elise died on April 12, 2018, at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown, Ontario. She turned 102 in March. She was in her 84th year as a School Sister of Notre Dame. Adela was born on March 10, 1916, the third youngest of a family of 12. Her farm home was near the hamlet of  Deemerton. She received her elementary education in a one-room school, known as the “mosquito” school, located in the nearby bush. It was there she discovered a library book on the Little Flower of Jesus. St. Therese’s life inspired her to become a nun. She felt that she could do little things even though she had suffered from polio at age five.
Earth Day 2018 will take place on April 22nd! The theme for this year is “End Plastic Pollution.” Click to find resources to take action!
Twice a year the School Sisters of Notre Dame award grants to organizations working for justice. These groups benefit people, mostly women and children, caught in poverty, human rights abuses, or environmental devastation. Meet our Gospel Fund Grantees March 2018:
In October 2017 the General Chapter accepted the new directional statement, "Love Gives Everything." Now is the time for prayer and reflection on the seven commitments the document sets for our future planning. In this issue of the United in Mission Newsletter, each of seven sisters reflects on one of the commitments. Ministry Services hopes these reflections will guide you in your own personal prayer.

A group of current and past participants in the Ministry Formation program, offered through the Department of Ministry Services, attended the 19th Annual CTAUN Conference at the UN in New York City on April 6. They included Province directors and leaders from our sponsored ministries.

Earth Day 2018 – End Plastic Pollution   This Earth Day, April 22, the focus will be on limiting the use of plastics. Plastics pollute our oceans, water, and wildlife, disrupt human hormones, and cause life-threatening diseases. Indeed, “The exponential growth of plastics is threatening our planet’s survival!”
My first visit to Queens during spring break was delightfully illuminating.

I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in service activities at the SSND Educational Center in Queens, NY.

My service-learning trip to the SSND Educational Center in Queens, NY is one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve had.

Dr. King reminds us that “human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of people willing to be co-workers with God.
