May 31, 2022 was a bittersweet day in the history of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Canada, as we closed on the sale of our convent in Waterdown. We look forward to again having an educational program for young people filling the hallowed halls.

Sisters Patricia Hammond and Donna McHugh were honored by Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission Grammar School on May 19. At the annual fundraising gala for the school, the Sisters were presented with the "Mary Leydon Commitment to Education Award" for their years of teaching dedication.
Recently, I was invited to serve on the Advisory Board at St. Saviour High School (SSH) in Brooklyn, my alma mater. Because there is no longer an SSND presence [on the faculty], the Board has made it a point to have an SSND be a part of the Board.
Ministry Services, in collaboration with the Associates, started a new initiative to explore with SSND Associates the possibility of serving on an SSND ministry board. To introduce this opportunity, Ministry Services offered a first-time virtual gathering with Associates who were interested in exploring a possible call to such a ministry.
Each year on May 9, we remember and look to Blessed Theresa as a guide for our own lives and times, and pray that the charism entrusted to her might continue to find life and expression in all those touched by the School Sisters of Notre Dame. 
Eighth-grade athletes Alessandra Cardamone and Gemma Siliciano, members of the Academy of the Holy Angels Middle School’s first volleyball and basketball teams, earned the Archdiocese of Newark’s Sportsmanship Award. AHA Middle School Athletic Coordinator Sarah Chalmers, who organized these inaugural middle school sports programs, received the Discipleship Award.
The Notre Dame Preparatory School community was thrilled to welcome General Council member Sister Carolyn Anyega, SSND, to the school on Monday, April 11.
The North American Archives has taken in the stock of books from Elm Grove and Villa Notre Dame. These books are available, free of charge, to any Sister, Associate or SSND staff person who would like a copy.

The Baltimore Carmelites offer a virtual retreat/event Nov 12-13 on the Theme of   Transforming Spirituality in a Time of Plague. Themes and keynoters align with our province’s focus areas of dismantling racism and the climate crisis.

On Monday, October 11, our province celebrates Canadian Thanksgiving Day with our sisters, associates and staff in Canada. It’s a time to celebrate the harvest season and a time to give thanks for our many blessings.
