In September, I was at the River Run event in Toronto for Grassy Narrows, an Anishinaabe community in Northwestern Ontario. There were thousands of people there to protest mercury poisoning of Grassy Narrows’s land.

It was Monday morning, and I was standing in the hallway in the Franciscan Center as I do every Monday morning, greeting (and clicking the counter) as each person in the food line reaches the doorway and picks up a tray. It was about 11 a.m.
Ring Those Jubilee Bells, Belles!
The Atlantic-Midwest Jubilee class of 2024 had much to sound off on Saturday, September 14, whether celebrating 40, 60, 70, 75, 80, or 85 years as consecrated women religious. The bells of each group rang over the lands of Canada, England, and the United States!
Barnyard Bonanza at Stella Maris!
The Duncan Family Farm Mobile Petting Zoo visted Stella Maris on Thursday, September 12.
It was a Barnyard Bonanza that included ducks, bunnies, sheep, goats, and ponies. Everyone enjoyed the animals and we are grateful to our volunteers who helped take our Sisters outside on this beautiful day!

Celebrating Jubilee at The Watermark
As we prepare to celebrate the Province Jubilee September 14, we are happy to share the wonderful celebration we held at The Watermark for our four Jubilarians. Sister Anna Mae Frenzik is celebrating her 70th Jubilee, while Sisters Carolyn Stoe, Kathy Fullerton, and Peg Regan are celebrating their 60th Jubilees.
Sister Mary Peter Celebrates 94!
Reminiscing on her life as an SSND, Sister Mary Peter offered wisdom for the ages: "As I look back I see how grateful I am. The one thing that I would share is that no matter what happens, God is always there. In good times and hard times, there is always something to learn!"
Two Smash Teilhard de Chardin Hits!
Just as the symposium on the Trinity proved to be a defining mark for living of the 24th General Chapter Directional Statement, Teilhard de Chardin’s work is foundational for understanding the call to universal communion in our current Directional Statement.
SSNDs Attend School Convocation
Teachers and staff members from the archdiocese’s elementary and secondary schools gathered before the start of the school year, which this year began Aug. 26. Whether they wore matching T-shirts or traveled together via coach buses, school buses or by car, most arrived with smiles and a sense of excitement.
Waterdown Sisters Enjoy a Special Summer Visit
On Thursday August 8th, SSND Waterdown Sisters enjoyed having an ice cream truck come to visit them at the motherhouse. The line was through the front doors before the toppings were on the table! Thankfully it was a warm, sunny day, so the Sisters could indulge in the cold treat outside together.
2024 Shalom International Meeting in Guam
SSND Shalom International branch representatives converged July 22-28 upon the island of Guam in Micronesia, coming from Argentina, Germany, Italy, Sierra Leonne, and the United States. Our hosts were the Asia/Oceania branch of SSND Shalom International and the SSND community in Tolofono, Guam. The six Sisters, Associates and staff made us feel most welcome, as did too, the Alumni Association of Notre Dame High School.
Sister Eileen Denny, SSND: Thriving!
Sister Eileen Denny was born in Norwalk, CT, the oldest of three children. When Sister Eileen Denny was ten, she converted to Catholicism and fell in love with God.
Looking Back on the Time of Dictatorship in Chile
My first ministry was in Santiago in Colegio St. George, a school run by the Congregation of the Holy Cross priests and brothers. My work involved participation in the administration and teaching in Grades 7 and 8 in 1970 and in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 in 1971, until the school was taken over by the military government in late 1973.

On July 25, 2024, members of the Profession Class of 1959 gathered by Zoom to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of Class of 1959 Profession. Sisters from Baltimore, Wilton, and Chicago participated in the live Zoom event.

Visiting Our Japanese Sisters
I was fortunate to spend four days with our sisters in Kyoto, Japan, en route to the Shalom International Meeting in Guam, July 22-27. There are 47 Sisters and 15 Associates in the country.
Generously, the Sisters introduced me to the Japanese culture and to their delicious food. We visited some Japanese heritage sites and participated in a green tea ceremony.
