Pilgrimage to Saint John Paul II National Shrine

SSNDs with a life size Saint John Paul sculpture

Eleven sisters from Villa Assumpta made a pilgrimage to Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, June 6. The shrine is a place of prayer and reflection. A guided tour of the Redemptor Hominis Church and Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary Chapel was informative and enjoyable. Sisters had an opportunity to venerate a first-class blood relic of John Paul II and participate in the 12 p.m. Mass.

Province-Wide Jubilee Celebration

Province Jubilee Celebration in Wilton
On Saturday, May 6, 2017, the Atlantic-Midwest Province held its Jubilee Celebration at Villa Notre Dame. The commemoration began on Friday with a retreat day directed by Sister Patricia Flynn, who used our theme - God’s Faithfulness. Late in the afternoon, we had a vespers service with the provincial council. After our day of prayer and reflection, we were treated to a festive supper served by members of the council. We are grateful for all the thought and work that went into preparing this memorable retreat day.

Candidates playing music in 1941

With a starlit sky above them, three sisters, ten candidates and 22 aspirants and boarders arrived at the new Canadian Motherhouse on February 14, 1927.

A statue of Our Lady of Grace, aglow with light high above the front balcony, was there with arms extended in welcome. At the front entrance stood the smiling Mother Baptist Klein, Sisters Othwina Tiefenbrun, Hilda Lienhardt, Humberta Schmitz and Pontia Diebolt. The group was led to the chapel where the first community sang, “Holy God We Praise Thy Name”.

SSNDs take on the Mannequin Challenge

Sisters do the mannequin challenge

The School Sisters of Notre Dame are getting in the holiday spirit with a Christmas-themed mannequin challenge.

The mannequin challenge, if you’re not familiar, is when people remain frozen in action (like mannequins) while a video is recorded.

At the December Assembly in Wilton, Ct. some sisters got together for a challenge. You’ll see sisters writing Christmas cards, wrapping gifts, and decorating a Christmas tree.

Reconnecting with sisters around the world

Sisters Maria Iannuccilo with SSNDs in Poland

Sister Maria Iannucillo, a provincial councilor of the Atlantic-Midwest Province, recently travelled to Poland for World Youth Day (WYD). In addition to the WYD events, Sister Maria was able to visit the Divine Mercy Shrine, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, and go to Saint John Paul II’s hometown, Wadowice, with SSNDs from the Polish Province.

One of the gifts of her trip was spending time with other SSNDs at the Motherhouse in Opole.
